Izar Foroni - Naba Milano, Itàlia

My stay in Milan at NABA University.

To begin with, I'd like to say that it was a unique and unrepeatable experience. I chose my destination because of the importance it has, especially in the fashion sector, but also in design and art in general and I must say that it has not disappointed me at all. The city is contemporary and dynamic, there is always something to see and something to do, although it is also quite expensive in some aspects.

For me personally, speaking Italian has made my stay and communication much easier. I have participated in the classes of the Italian students, so, on the one hand, I have not had any Erasmus partner with me, but on the other hand, I have been able to practice and improve the language a lot.

The university has a great campus, located near Navigli and with a lot of materials at the disposal of each student. It has "labs" or workshops equipped with industrial machines of all kinds that make your work much easier.

As for the classes, you have one class per week and per subject, so you have plenty of free time even during the week, but because of the organization of these you have to do a lot of work at home or on your own. In some cases, the teachers act as guides in a project and not as teachers. That is, they follow up on your personal project and value your work, but it is you who must solve any problem.

If I had to choose the most negative aspect of my stay, I would say it is accommodation: it is difficult to find and really expensive. Besides, NABA does not have a university residence, so most of the students live in apartments. This affects the way of meeting people; for doing so, the ESN (Erasmus Student Network) association has been of great help.

On the other hand, fabrics and sewing material in general are also expensive, although if you know the tricks and markets you can lower costs. For food, the price varies, but it's one of the main pros of the city and of Italy in general. If you like pizza, pasta and good ice cream this city is your ideal destination!

In general, it's a fantastic city for anyone, but especially for people who are studying or are interested in fashion. The number of events and museums to visit is unparalleled and hopefully your stay can coincide with the Fashion Week. The university also provides you with a lot of information about events and competitions so it is a very good place to grow as a designer and carry out ideas and projects. As long as you find time to do so between parties. It all depends on how you want to project your experience, but it is certainly a destination that offers many possibilities.
