"Hers" / Clara Gràcia

Clara Gràcia / ESDAP Catalunya / Campus Llotja

There is currently a lack of social awareness about women’s inequality and oppression in our society, a situation maintained by a patriarchal system.

We have been taught these norms and values and despite the struggle of feminist movements for centuries and the small levels of awareness that younger generations have acquired, we still normalize violence against women. This violence ranges from the more internalized sexist behaviours –everyday sexism reproduced and/or experienced– to the cruellest types of gender violence.

The key paradigm to this situation is the non-existent perspective of gender and sexuality in education, from primary and high school to university, and it is clear that change beginning with the education system would represent a turning point for our society and, consequently, for women. Education arouses people’s curiosity, ideas and awareness. One of its main goals should therefore be to raise awareness about women’s oppression and gender violence among teens, who are in a vulnerable stage of life at a time when they experiencing emotional and physical changes. This should be done through the creation of impact, self-criticism, sensitization and empathy. The main purpose of hers is to create a coeducational tool (education based on equality and difference, and based on a gender perspective) in the shape of a card game and enigmas, in which each card explains the real story of an anonymous woman and tells of the violence and oppression they experience every day.
