ONA: Self-pleasure kit for teenagers / Eva castany

Eva castany / ESDAP Catalunya / Campus Llotja

In the West there is currently much debate on gender and on women’s sexuality. A significant number of women suffer anorgasmia for social and cultural reasons, which include disapproval of sexuality since adolescence, a lack of emotional and sex education, and restricted access to self-pleasure items. From a perspective of product design and with the designer in the role of generating change, this project interprets sexual practice from a health perspective in which self-awareness and masturbation are a positive, healthy and necessary learning channel to encourage women’s pleasure.

Research has been done and data gathered through background analysis and fieldwork. The results have been used to define the problem, detect needs and establish target characteristics. The importance of destigmatizing female masturbation, particularly in adolescence, has been highlighted as has the need for facilitating theoretical/experiential learning resources for initiation in sexual practice.

The tangible result with regard to product design is the development of a kit for people who wish to initiate in self-awareness and vaginal masturbation through methods of self-awareness.
