FURTHUR / Elena Nicolau

Elena Nicolau / ESDAP Catalunya / Campus Llotja

The Furthur collection creates a parallel between nineteen-sixties counterculture and groups that are currently fighting against high-speed consumerism and its impact, which are now becoming today’s counterculture. Just like the group of young drug addicts The Merry Pranksters, Furthur seeks to establish a new state of awareness or a search for a new inner presence emerging from discord with an exhausted society. The proposal involves reusing unused clothing and offcuts as its main material, as well as military uniforms to peacefully and decidedly “declare war” on the fast fashion industry and to give the abandoned garments a fresh presence.

This new approach to using material must be aesthetically timeless and focused on people who are struggling for the cause most. It must be affordable for the middle class and sold honestly and transparently through social media.
