Special Final Works | Curs 2018/19

Cova coworking / Jaume Abril

Jaume Abril / ESDAP Catalunya / Campus Vic

A “co-working” space for young designers, located in the city of Barcelona between the bohemian district of Gràcia and Diagonal. Cova is intended as a refuge for anyone who wants to start a design-related professional career.

Intervention in the space is minimal and the project is characterized by metallic structures that serve different functions in order to generate spaces and divisions among them. All the furniture will be modular and removable so it can also be reused in another setting if necessary.

An improvement on the current concrete flooring and a perlite and vermiculite projection on vertical walls and ceiling will improve the thermal and acoustic properties in the interior and yield a contrast with the other elements and furniture chosen. Cross ventilation will be achieved with the installation of a courtyard at the back of the premises and large openings on the main façade in order to minimize the energy impact of the space’s air-conditioning.

Designed for maximum user comfort and mindful of current changes in the way new generations work. There are versatile spaces for “co-workers” who can work lying down, take a nap, have a shower or work in an outdoor courtyard. With the current boom of shared work spaces, it is probably a good time to reappraise their design and to adapt them to the extra needs of future generations.
